The perennial philosophy is a worldview that has been embraced by most of the world’s spiritual thinkers and teachers. The American philosopher Ken Wilber has written about it in his book Grace and Grit (1991), in which he calls the perennial philosophy ‘universal’ because it can be found in virtually all cultures across the ages. Wherever it is found, it is essentially the same. This is really quite amazing as there is virtually nothing on which all people agree.

As I gather my thoughts this bright tropical morning, allow me to share that it has been very dry here in South Kona this year due to an El Nino climatic event warming the ocean… the same event that is slamming the mainland with torrential rains in the West and massive snowfalls in the Midwest and East.

And here on Hawai’i Island?? We are all hoping that the Hawaiian healing god Lono—the keeper of the winds and the bringer of the rains (and the god of agriculture)—will step forward and bless this island with moisture.

This past weekend (Jan 15-17), I led a weekend workshop on Maui for 22 souls. While drumming for the group, I continually made short shamanic journeys into the dream aspect of Haiti, during which I connected with the Vodou gods (the loa) specifically with Barron, the lord of the cemetaries; Grand-bois, the healing god; La Sirene, the Haitian version of Yemaya the queen of the seas; Erzulie, the goddess of love; and Papa-legba, the gate keeper, to facilitate and help alleviate the suffering of the dead, as well as the living.

In my Blogum (a hybrid blog-column) posted Jan 8, 2010, it was revealed that I recently had an encounter with a Jinn in Egypt.

In Arabic, male Jinn are called ‘jinni’ and females ‘jinniya.’ They are earthbound spirits who may fall into the same category as the faeries of European lore as they live in this world (right here) as opposed to the transpersonal forces that reside in the spirit world (over there.)

Last Sunday (Jan. 3, 2010) I gave a talk to the New Thought Church in Kealakekua (on Hawaii Island) about something extraordinary that happened to me recently in Egypt.

Our travel group was exploring a large mortuary temple called Medinet Habu near the Valley of the Kings on December 10 when two of my friends, Lorenzo and Coyote (aka Lawrence and Barry), told me they had gotten a huge energy surge in a small shrine near the entrance of the complex.
